so many races have come down to where the swimmer is during the final stroke
almost makes a close race a matter of luck. In this case, Phelps seemed to make the smart move while the serbian guy didn't finish ...as Grapeking said.

Phelps hands hit from above the water line so from below it looks like he got beat.....
But the Camera from above shows his hands hitting first as he finishes the final stroke. Honestly, this was luck. He just happened to perfectly finish his final stroke such that his arms perfectly came down and struck the touch pad.

The protest was withdrawn, they agreed with the result
"So the Serbians and the FINA judges watched the replay. They watched it a few times. Watched it from both systems - one powered by cable, one by battery.
"It was very clear the Serbian swimmer touched second after Michael Phelps," Ekumbo said.
Clear to whom? The Serbs?

The question wasn't even that Phelps touched first; it was if Cavic had managed to get there at the same time and share gold. The Serbs conceded. The protest was withdrawn."<ul><li><a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/swimming/news?slug=dw-finaswimming081608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns">ht tp://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/swimming/news?slug=dw-finaswimming081608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns</a</li></ul>

is digital supposed to imply accurate?
for .01 sec, i would really challenge the accuracy of the timing system. but who's going to test it with simultaneously applying equal pressure to both pads.
