Default Advanced Technologies (owned by Lee Malo) in Gloucester, MA.

Yes, it's a 45 minute drive for me, but it's STILL worth it. Far lower rate than Brian's, too.

Little Foreign Car in Waltham is also good.

Default far lower rate for ACNA members. i cant believe you drive 45 min ... the logistics of doing that is

nuts! how do you get home after you drop your car off?

i dont want to come off as a brians garage nutswinger, but he is a good mechanic. the only issue is he speaks his mind

Default Lee is right near by a T station, so if you live or work near the T, it's not that bad

When I was working in Cambridge, I'd drop my car off the previous night and take the T home. To pick up, I'd leave work just a little bit early and then take the T back out to Gloucester.

Now that I'm working in Marlborough, I think it's going to be quite a bit harder to go to him.

Default I never doubted Brian was a good mechanic, but my experience...

... was that Stu was unprofessional and they never did the work I asked them to. Brian definitely does good work from everything I hear.

Yes, far lower rate for ACNA members. One more good reason to be a member

As far as the long trip to Gloucester, it's not like I do that for oil changes. I do all my own work for the more basic stuff (oil changes, brake pad/rotor swaps, all other routine maintenance).

Brian's garage in Needham, MA charges 50% more on hourly labor if you bring the parts in yourself, $80 vs. $120??? Do they get the parts from outer space or NASA or they just want to make more money through parts?

Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question.

Advanced Technologies in Gloucester MA x2
Lee FTW

And I have not had any work done at Brian's Garage, so i can't comment on him. However I have heard lots of stories about his customer 'experience'

Oh, and my friend's Kris and Pat help me with 95% of the work I do on my car. If, for some reason they can't fit me in (rarely) or we get completely stumped, I send it to Lee.

I had a weird issue with my UrS and I couldn't get it running. I sent it to Lee, he replaced a coil and it fired right up. Had I had some additional coils to try, I might have gotten it myself.

We've got a lot of experience working on our own cars.
Built up turbo motors
built up NA motors
Fully built a G60 Corrado when we were 19
Swapped that motor into a Rabbit at one point
WRX Wagon with a full STI setup.
Turbocharged a Normally Aspirated 2.0L 97 GTI...
Un-turboed that motor and put it into a 92 GTI and wired it all up as an OBD2 car
tranny rebuilds
suspension installation
alignment
wheel mounting
electronic diagnosis and repair

We've done all sorts of cars: VWs and Audis; Hondas and Acuras; Saabs; RX7s; Lancer Evos and Eclipses; Jeeps; etc...

if you guys ever need a hand, let us know. We're always willing to help.

I've not had any problem with Brian... I've been to his shop a few times because it is really close to me and he does good work. I think he likes to chat, which is fine by me. He's never got under my skin..
