Any thoughts on the new F1 "most wins wins?"
Apparently the Championship is now to be decided on the basis of most wins in the season, not on points. Points will only be used as a tie-breaker.
I understand that this encourages drivers to go for the win at all costs, thus improving the show. At least that's the theory...
I think it totally blows that consistency is not rewarded under this scheme, though.
The powers that be can't seem to decide which direction to take. They upped winners points to 10 (with a 10-6-4-3-2-1 system) to place a higher premium on winning. Then they completely negated that with the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system, and now this?
A driver who consistently has podium finishes should be rewarded. In the long run it's a better measure of a driver's skill than just the wins, which often comes down to luck (good or bad).
Who would you think the better driver is - a guy with 5 wins and 10 podium finishes, or a guy who has 6 wins and pitches his car into the weeds the other 11 races? Sure the second guy is more fun to watch, but who is really the best?

How many F1 races end with the pole sitter as the winner? A very high percentage compared to most other racing series. I think the first 5 cars will battle and everyone else will drive a million dollar car in a nice little parade.

I think we'll probably also see the top runners who have bad starts or spins and have fallen back in the pack retiring and trying to save their 3-race engines rather than scrabbling through the field for a small points payoff. Often times those are the most exciting drives to watch (e.g., Schumi's last race to a 4th place finish, or Alboreto's drive from last to 2nd after a tire puncture at Monaco in (I think) 1985).

"Announcing, F1 by vB, where nothing makes sense!"
So, screw the driver with multiple podiums? Hopefully the driver that wins the WDC will have won a few anyway, but geez, come on! Drugs are bad, okay?
