Let's play.....Name that Rattle!
Alright, this is an issue that has been bugging me for a while, but it seems to have gotten worse after Summit Point on Sunday.
I'm getting a rattle from the rear of the car - I really think it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. It's extremely noticeable when the car is loaded (like with an extra set of wheels, tool boxes, track box, jack, and other miscellaneous junk for the track) and driving over uneven pavement that causes the suspension to travel up and down rapidly.
The rattle sounds like a loose or rattling bracket of some sort. It's definitely a denser metal sound - more than, say, a heat shield. I've check nearly everything that's in plain view including the mounts, brake assembly, sway bar, exhaust hangers, etc., but nothing seems loose.
Any other suggestions??? No, it's not a dead hooker in the trunk. I already tried removing her and it didn't solve the problem.
Thanks.

If its not a dead hooker, maybe its...
the jewelry she was wearing before you dumped the body?
Seriously though, my car makes the same rattle and I have checked everything too and cant find anything loose or broken. Maybe Audi just builds something in to make us spend more money getting them serviced for no reason?

using hub centric rings? plastic or metal?
Are you running them on your rim? I'm using metallic ones on my (miata) rims, and it was the cause for my metallic rattle on sharp road jars...

does it do it when cold too? or only after you ran it for a while?
also, constant rattle? Engine/RPM dependent?
If you toss the car left/right does it rattle or clank?
Might check clearance of the exhaust on the rear diff, etc. Maybe your exhaust hangers are starting to sag. That's one thought.
NExt step is to left the back side of the car (pass side, after removing the dead hooker and bowling ball) and wail on the tire with a dead blow hammer and see if you can replicate it.
I'd toss out an idea that maybe your rear brake pads might be loose in there. Does the noise still happen if you're applying light pressure on the brakes?
just some ideas... otherwise, try the universal move... turn up da vaaaahhhhllluuuumme

mine did that too, maybe not the same sound
the little tabs that you push against the rear calipers on the pads kept popping and the entire brake pad was rattling. sounded like a metal chain shaking sometimes until i fixed it.
my fix: sold the car.
