Default Car (on Topic) question. Those of you who have had waterpumps fail:

Metal or plastic impeller?
What was the cause of failure?
how many miles on your waterpump before the failure?

*doing a bit of research to replace mine, thanks! *

Default Mine did not fail but...

believe the original was plastic and had approx. 84000 on it. The one I got from PureMS is metal. Hope that helps.

Default Not sure about Audis (heh), but on BMWs, plastic impellers always fail

and people always move to the metal ones for longevity.

Default Your impellers looked perfect, it was just the bearings that were ****ed...

when are you going to tackle the repair? I want in!!!

Default I was gonna ask you about that, when we were cleaning up i noticed the

brand new belt in the box and i was just curious why it wasn't put on... then i realized you probably left the old one on around the cams and crank so you didn't skip any teeth due to the lack of a cam lock bar... let me know... and i marked down the 10th for the odder ting

Default I doubt it is the heat that is causing failure

more likely seals failed and let the watter into bearings.. coolant doesn't get that hot unless you thermostat gets stuck closed...
