Anyone have any input on Mk4 VW TDI engines/Cars?

Eleventy-one-billion dollars & 13 cents. O:-P
Honestly, junkyard engines can be had for $400-1400, but the diesel heads are gold for some reason. IMO it'd be pretty cheap to throw in a 1.8T with a 5 speed manual, but with that kind of work it wouldn't be worth it.

I bought my son a 2000 Jetta TDI when he graduated college- it won't die...
his intake has some carbon build up thats on the fix list, some electrical problems (after all its a VAG product), but everything else pretty good. I wish it had a timing chain instead of a belt. He has about 150K and still gets 40+MPG highway. We're using our MB E300 more now that diesel is about 25 cents less than regular (but wait until winter- about same as premium). Diesel fuel has been bouncing around more than it ever did- I'm hoping but not holding my breath for some nice new diesels. Our E300 was less than an E320 when we bought it, the TDI was more than the 1.8. I think we're going to have to bend over to buy a diesel until supply catches up to demand.

Most VW dealers have a nice machine that cleans up those intake manifolds.....
I have a buddy that works @ one, and just trades them out for me. It'll feel like it added 30-40 hp when you do it. Last TDI I did that to, had carbon build up so much that the air passage was almost the size of a pencil.
