1 flat tire, unknown mileage. How many tires need replaced and what ones?
Blew out the front passenger tire on a new pot hole yesterday. Not sure how many miles are on the tires since I bought the wheels & tires used. They still have a decent amount of tread on them. Since I am Quattro do I need to replace more then one tire? If so what do I need to replace? Both fronts? Both passenger?

I think the consensus is that you don't absolutely "need" to replace other tires, but it's better to
do so. Another option is to get a new replacement tire, but to have it "shaved" by a tire shop so that it matches the tread depth of the other ones.
All four should roughly match - so if replacing 1 would result in a large mismatch with the other 3, replacing only another 1 tire (i.e. both fronts or both on one side) won't do anything good.

How much is "decent amount". Measure the remaining thread and compare to new tire.
If it's close you could replace just the one, if it's half gone you'll probably want to replace at least both front ones, if it's more then that you might wanna replace all of them.

Interested to know too. Similar happened to me 2 yrs ago...
Pot hole caused 1 tire's side wall to swell (broken internal belt it seemed), so swapped w/ the zero-mile spare tire. Concerned about the quattro diff issue, so I measured the CIRCUMFERENCE of the tires. Turned out the difference was like <1% in circumference (tires were about 1/3 worn or so, iirc), so I just left it. I didn't have a good basis to gauge if that's too much or too little (still don't). So far haven't noticed any problem w/ my car (fingers crossed).
Does anyone have definitive and quantitative numbers on what the tolerance limits are, for variation in diameters (or circumference, since one is ^2 of the other) between tires on a Quattro?

2% in dia or circumference?
because 2% in diameter = 4% in circumference,
while 2% in circumference = 1% in Dia. :-\
Would like to know where you saw or heard this (reference). Please post back if you remember or come across it again in future...
