I have a 2006 A4 Avante S-Line with about 99k miles. no issues with the car and regular maintenance by the deal for the life of the car. Love this car and thought it would drive forever. This past week the car just down as we were driving on the freeway at 60+ miles, EPC code, no smoke, sounds, steam, etc. Just died. : (. Towed to the dealership, report is that the timing belt broke, no tension. Not sure how much damage has been done so here are the options:
1) Further evaluation to see if just the head of the engine needs to be rebuilt. $495 for the evaluation and not sure of the cost. Dealer says they will help contribute.
2) Replace the long-Block for $11,050.
Do I replace it or try to sell for parts. The car is in excellent condition and taking the darn thing apart would probably fetch $15k. I really hate to see this car go as I would love to drive it for another 100k. It has been a great car. Any suggestions are welcome.
