Hi David, if you read through the old, inactive thread you bumped on, it already gave you the most common resolution to this rare issue, which is adjusting the shifter cable. Also, if you just got this car, you will need to get a VAG compatible diagnostic scantool ASAP, as who knows what may be lurking just below the surface, eh? Also, if you got it from a dealer, they generally will work with you to correct significant faults. This really should've been identified during the test drive though...when you try all the buttons, switches, and everything in general to be sure it all still works.
