Default 10V motor

i have a 1988 5KTQ (261k miles) i have some slight mods done. im pushing around 28PSI using the stock turbo. i know its not efficient so dont tell me. i had recently pulled off my crankcase breather and just left it off so it could vent. i couldent help but notice the nice amounts of blow by coming out of the tube. i was wondering what kinda shape my engine would have to be in for this to happen. another thing i was wondering is how long will this engine last wish some blow by starting already.

Default Re: Have you actually driven it this way? Does it even run??

umm... having the crankcase vent dosent hurt anything. the only thing that makes it idle bad is when you have an open air leak between the CIS and the turbo inlet (any connections on the igloo)
i have nothing going into the igloo all the holes are capped. the crankcase is just venting its not under vacuum or anything its put under vacuum when its attached to the inlet.

and yes the car runs fine with it off. as a matter of fact it runs much better with it off. the rpm's jumped up much faster and it ran better over all

Actually it does cause the engine to die or idle bad. Search the 200/5000 forum.

Default Re: It's whats called a "sealed motor".

what im saying is the crankcase dosent have filtered air running through it. the breather hose is there to vent the pressure created by (blow by gases) and to recycle the oil that is churned into the air by the crank hitting the oil. it never had clean air going through it because if it did then they wouldn't sell crankcase breather filters. people take off their crankcase and pcv system and put a filter in its place all the time.

umm just a word for thought the blow by gases are not re-routed into the igloo and re metered because the igloo is after the meter. the only way it could be metered again is if you put it into where the air filter is.

Default You're both right

Chef is right, a STOCK motor will not run with the filler cap or breather disconnected. The symptoms he describes are exactly what will happen.

However you mention that you've modded this mtor and all the vacuum lines have been blocked, so who knows?

The vapors you sre seeing should be routed back to be reburned, but if the plumbing is different that may not be the way it's going to happen.

You shouldn't see many vapors at all even under substantial boost. I have my breather on my AAN vented lyand it's fine, but mine isn't quite plumbed "normal" either. I don't get any vapors nor any drips or ooze out of tube.

I'd start by doing a compression check and see where you're at. If you indeed have a lot of blow by you should see something there.

Default Re: 10V motor

recent update. all 5 cyl. have 110-125 psi compression. the 4th cyl has the 110. all the rest are between 120-125

a new motor should have 100-130 so i figure 125psi aint bad for a motor with 261k miles on it.
