Default Really a roots blower? Sure looks like a twin screw to me...

though I know little about SC's. From my understanding roots blowers are low efficiency, especially at higher boost levels due to the actual compression happening upstream of the blower, ie. in the intake tract. Other blowers (and turbos) compress partially or mostly in the compressor housing.

Note peak hp and tq at same rpm (4850)... I'll bet there's much more available up top which we'll see in the S4 application (350hp according to rumour).

Default not impressed! Mini went from Supercharger to Turbo for better performance and fuel economy, not..

sure why supercharger won over Turbo... it could be for cost/warranty/modding issues

Default Thanks. Wikipedia suggested otherwise...

"Unlike the Roots type supercharger, the twin-screw exhibits ..."

Default I am. Generally speaking, supercharged engines are easier to work on.

No more pulling the engine to switch out the turbos :P

Default Similar, but not the same. A roots-type unit is considered a "blower," whereas the screw-type

is considered a "compressor." Screw-type superchargers have an internal compression ratio, which is what makes them different from roots-type superchargers. Screw compressors are also much more expensive, so something tells me Audi would avoid using them.

Default ^^ Good thing they are as the supercharger causes much increased internal engine wear.

I have heard figures that up to 40% of the engines output is used to drive the SC, about 4% for turbo cars, and that is only if they show backpressure in exhaust.
