I've said this before and I'll say it again, we should have a club range day.

Default hk usp compact

dont buy a glock. there is no safety. many people, cops included have shot themselves because of this fact.

i have a usp compact and it is awesome. also look into their p2000. its smaller and easier to conceal.

Default Excellent advice...

Kimber is now out of the running.

Shot gun is a great idea (have one), but I also need something I can stick in my belt. Answering the door with my shot gun is appropriate for some situations, not for others.

I want something with a bit more finality than the .380 auto.

I like the Kahr! KP4544N looks like it might fit the bill:

Is that what you meant by "compact?"

HK USP is also a standout, but the P7 is 9mm right?

I'll give you a buzz later in the week.

The Sig 229DAK should be on the short list too.

Default Short List

Sig P229 DAK (.40)
Sig P220 Carry DAK (.45)
HK USP Compact (.45)
Glock G30/G36 (.45)
Kahr KP4544N (.45)

Now to find gun shops with rentals "close enough."

Any other .40 or .45 with matte black finish that I should put on the short list?

Default they musta been pretty dumb... the only way it goes off is to pull the trigger

which, i think is the basic idea. if it's for self defense, it should be holstered/locked up. only time to pull it out is to shoot it.. only way to shoot is pull the trigger.

Default They have 3 safeties. Hence the name Glock Safe Action pistol...

The reason so many NYPD cops had accidental firings when they first switched is because they were trained to start pulling the trigger as soon as they started drawing their old revolvers. This is a classic case of the training not keeping up with the technology. Thanks to them, most service Glocks now have 14.5lb trigger springs.

The ONLY way a Glock "Safe Action" pistol can fire is if the trigger is pulled. This is no different than any other DAO pistol. In fact, their trigger center safety probably makes them safer than most DAOs.
