My 1998 A4 Quattro with manual transmission has...

My 1998 A4 Quattro with manual transmission has 205K miles. Over the past few months shifting into first, second, and third gears has been somewhat hard. When I go to shift, it fights me for about 2 or 3 seconds before letting me fully shift into gear. If I leave it in neutral for those 2 or 3 seconds, it shifts into gear easily. There is no indication of a slipping clutch. The clutch disengages when the pedal is well above the floor.

I changed the gear oil a couple of months ago (it had never been changed) with no improvement.

I few days ago I bled the slave cylinder, also with no improvement.

One more curious thing. While standing still with the engine running at idle and the clutch pedal held to the floor, if I move the shift about halfway between neutral and fully shifted into a particular gear, I can get it to do some light grinding. I find this odd because if the clutch is disengaged and the wheels are not turning, what could be causing some gear to be turning? Could the problem be that the clutch is not disengaging fully? If so, what could cause that?

Could the master and/or slave cylinder be defective? How can I determine if either of these need to be replaced?

Thanks.

Retardation on B5 APR Stg 3

Hi guys, newbie here. Would really appreciate...

Hi guys, newbie here. Would really appreciate some help cuz i'm at my wits end...

I have a B5 A4 1.8T with APR Stg 3. About a few months ago i started noticing that it's not as powerful as it used to be.

Finally had the time to bring it to a friend with a vagcom and we did some pulls. My cylinder 4 is retarding by a max of 14 degress! Cylinder 1 sometimes reaches 10deg. Cylinders 2 and 3 dont go beyond 6deg.

Now when the engine is cold, the car idles smoothly. When it's hot, there's this tapping sound, kinda like a single typewriter. We noticed that the knock voltage readings of Cylinders 1 and 4 are a bit high. So i assume that this is what's causing the retardation. But we have no idea what's causing the knock though. I'm on 91 oct fuel and i'm pretty sure i'm on my 91oct file since i already disconnected the battery. And we've done a compression test already and the results are 210, 210, 205, 210 (my engine only has 42t kms).

Due to the previous fault codes, i have already replaced the cam position sensor, the MAF, and new plugs (ngk 7re). We're installing the O2 sensor tonight. If that doesnt do the trick then we'll open up the engine. But before we do that, may i request some ideas from you guys please? What could be causing the knock???

I'd sincerely appreciate your thoughts on this. thanks :)

i have an A4 quattor (2004) with tiptronic...

i have an A4 quattor (2004) with tiptronic transmission.
i have noticed that when i step on the gas when the car is moving slowly there is a slight lag before the gears engage, and the car jerks forward. it happens when i accelerate from around 1000 rpm / 15-25 mph (25-30 kmph)and is more pronounced if the car was slowing down before i accelerate.

The dealership mechanics say that this is not unusual and it happens in any car with electronic transmission systems. Is this issue common and is there anything i need to be worried about.
