06 a4 3.0L Cab Quattro getting new round things....

So I finally got my new to me car sent back for...

So I finally got my new to me car sent back for some clean-up work promised at point of sale, and now that they are done, I have time to do some further tinkering, like taking a look at why the gas mileage isn't tracking right, among other things.

Here's what I find:

Front Tires: 235/40ZR18 91W Pirelli Zero Nero M+S
Right Rear: 235/40R18 91V Triangle Talon TR968
Left Rear: 235/40R18 95H Nankang Sonar Ultra Sport NS-II M+S
Spare: 235/40ZR18 95V Continental Sport Contact II

Oh, brother. No wonder, right?

So I did some real recon and research today, and although the dealer will sell me 4 Continental TS790's with 17 inch wheels for 2300.00 (not mounted), I looked a lot further and found a much better deal for a better tire.

5 Michelin Pilot Exalto All Seasons 235/45R17 w/17 inch wheels mounted/balanced and out the door for 1899.95 after taxes. With an instant 40.00 rebate on either the tires or the wheels, if I recall correctly.

I'll let them keep the 18's and mismatched tires, I guess. Thought about keeping the tires and buying 3 more Pirelli's, but after research, not only are the Exalto's better all-weather summer tires than Pirelli's, but they are a lot better than Continental TS790's AND Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 and LM-60's in the winter, based on reviews with multiple quattro drivers.

And that, my friends, is something I can deal with. So with any luck, she'll be outfitted with the new tires on the stock wheels next Tuesday. Then, maybe I can get some real mpg data, AND the speedo will be more accurate.

See y'all on the flip side....

Difference between 2009 A4 Cabrio "Special Edition" vs. 2009 A4 Cabrio with Options

Hi there Audi World!

I am about to pull the...

Hi there Audi World!

I am about to pull the trigger on my first Audi, a 2009 A4 2.0 CVT Cabriolet. But I'm a bit confused about Audi's "Special Edition" marketing.

Most of the cars I've been looking at have been the 2009 "Special Edition." According to the window sticker, Special Edition includes these features:

- 18 inch 7-double-spoke wheels with all-season tires
- Homelink universal garage door opener
- Auto-dimming ext and int mirror with compass
- Xenon plus headlights
- Rain and light sensor
- Wind blocker
- Bose premium sound system
- Metallic paint (if equipped)

But the car I'm close to buying is a NON-Special Edition 2009 A4 2.0 CVT Cabriolet. This car is equipped with the options of "Bose Audio" and "Convenience Package." The Convenience Pacakge includes:
- HomeLink
- Auto-dimming exterior mirrors; Auto-dimming interior mirror with compass
- Xenon plus headlights
- Rain and light sensor with "Coming Home"
- Wind deflector

Even with those two options it's about $1000 cheaper than the similarly equipped "Special Edition" A4 Cab.

So, it seems like the only difference between a "Special Edition" and the non-SE with Convenience and Bose are the wheels.... I think the non-SE has 17 inch wheels instead of 18-inch.

But I wanted to throw the question out to you, wise Audi World community. Is there anything I'm missing? Why would the non-SE car be about $1000 cheaper than a similarly equipped SE car?

Thanks for your help!

Archie

I did find it interesting that although the options say no CD player, it does have a 6 CD player installed. Of course, it also says it has Satellite capable radio installed; if it is, it isn't being sold as such.
Options say No impact protection measures, but unless that means no rear object avoidance system (which is listed separately above), the cabriolet comes with rollover protection bars.
Also, for some reason, the installed winter package is called the Hot Option in the list above.

Also, I know the paint code is LZ5G/K8, which is Caribic Blue Pearl Effect, and the interior is Beige Leather (I think that's code N5T, which for some reason I've been told is rarer than the Platinum interiors on this Cabriolet. Given that those are the only 2 interiors offered for the 06 cab, I don't know if I really believe that.

Don't know if that helped anyone out, but hopefully so.
