Hey guys,

I just replaced the engine in my 93 audi 90s FWD automatic 160k. I have it running and driving but I cant seem to remember where my wiring for the radiator fans go. The brown wires are for ground, easy enough but, It is thermostatically controlled so the positive wires which is black with a red stripe go somewhere special.

Where do they go!??

Everything helps.
Thanks

I took my time and wrote the DIY and posted pics of all the steps like 7pm lastnight and it said my "DIY write up" needed to be approved by the Admins on this site.

Well I feel like I wasted my time with this site because it should not take 12hrs. to post pics on a website and my "DIY" post is not even posted yet.

I am not impressed by this site and I thought it sucked because I could not find out even find the location of a "Simple tranny filler plug" for a 1995 Audi 90 CSq on this site, which Im quite sure it has been talked about before but the "Search" feature sucks major balls and also I could tell no one really cares anyways about the orginal post.

I know that this site will not get anymore keystrokes

Well its finally over and what a PITA because I...

Well its finally over and what a PITA because I could not find the critical location of the filler plug. I looked on this site and site design made it very hard to find out what I needed and came up empty. I contacted the local Audi Dealerships and came up with different locations with were all wrong. I then contacted some location Euro car shops and also came up empty for the information I needed.

I then downloaded AutoData CDA-3 and it was right to the point for the infomation I needed.

Well 1st we used 4 jack stands and made her level to work underneath her.

1. First we took of the drain plug (sorry no pic) but its a big (17mm)hex bolt underneath the tranny and very easy to find and had no problems to remove.

2).We then let the tranny fluid drain (over night).......

Look at the dirty tranny fluid...no idea how old it is but looks very dirty...It did have a hint of red color to it so maybe it had very old and dirty RedLine but not sure.

I put some of the dirty old tranny fluid on some printer paper so to compare it to some brand new RedLine 75w-90 GL4.

3).Well after 3 days we finally located the mystery tranny filler plug. The location is on the drivers side hidden by the CV drive shaft by a aluminum curved plate that has to be removed.

4).The cover to the driver side tranny plug was removed and is on the ground in the pic.

5). Then tranny filler plug was then removed with a 17mm hex indented plug adapter. Make sure you clean the threads of the tranny and tranny plug very well.

6). Removed the filler tranny plug (w/17mm bolt adapter)

7). Filling tranny with RedLine 75w-90 MTL 90. (Make sure you elevate the bottle so the filler hose will not get kinked and flows good.

8). After tranny filled (2.538 qts) everything was put back together and tested on test drive and the new fluid some be broke in about 100 miles from what I have read.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

Hello I just bought this little beauty and wanted to do some DIY and pass the information along. I decided to change the tranny fluids and diff fluids and conducted alot of research and came to this conclusion....

There was really no information like a good write up and pictures on this procedure on these Audi models that I could find.

I after extensive research decided to roll with RedLine MTL90 (GL4) for the tranny and Mobil 1 75w90 LS(GL5).

I will be posting pics of the DIY sometime today.

Cabriolet Instrumentation Swap

I recently had the need to swap my instrument...

I recently had the need to swap my instrument cluster in a 98 Cab. For those of you who want to do this or are curious, the 98 had a different style of cluster than most, the fonts were different, the gauges and circuit board are different enough in size to make the swap...different. My 98 USA (v6 2.8) cab had a VDO cluster and the replacement I found was a VDO from a 95 Audi 90. My 98 also had the little vent/beeper speaker in the middle where the 95 did not.

To put it briefly, it is very easy to swap these out; the center cluster/beeper thingy just plugged right into the 95 cluster (it actually doesn't even plug into the circuit board but rides on it, then plugs into the car's harness).

The thing that is different is the indicator display. While the 90 instrument cluster has the position for the top indicator light it is not in the right place. When I would put the top up or down the brake light would illuminate (and vice-versa with the brake).

To remedy this you dismantle both clusters and remove the semi-opaque indicator plastic piece. You trim the one from the 98 slightly and then place it into the 95 cluster.

The only piece I haven't figured out is how to "tell" the 95 cluster that I have a V6. The tachometer is off by a bit, presumably because the cluster thinks it has 5 cylinders. There is a set of jumpers but, unlike the 98 cluster, it isn't clear what to jumper for V6.

Regardless I now have a working cluster, although with the wrong fonts (i think the earlier ones looked better anyway), all of gauges work now and there isn't a nasty crack in the middle.

If anyone knows how to jumper the older board for a V6 it would be appreciated.

Hi there,
I'm a noob, sorry! I bought a 1992 80 convertible a month ago, runs pretty good... but the interior trim is falling apart. The armrests inside the door (that houses the window up/down switches) on both sides has its inside core foam falling apart.
I called my local Audi dealer, and they say they don't make these parts anymore. I searched online, but found only a couple of sites that have Audi parts for a car this old. Is there some places you guys are getting parts for older Audis? This is my first car that is this old and now I'm worried nobody makes replacement parts for them... what do you guys do about this? What if its something critical like a transmission??? :(

Well the 90Q is coming along finally. Timing belt job finished up this morning. Was probably the easiest timing belt job Ive ever done. I went ahead and took the whole front end and radiator off so that made it even better. The hardest part was getting the old thermostat to part with the block lol. Front Bilsteins came yesterday. My shipment from Autohausaz will be here monday. Just soaking everything in parts cleaner getting ready to be refinished before the new parts go on. I still need rear calipers though... Anybody?? Oh and how the heck do i separate the spring from the strut housing? Ive pried and pried but no luck!
