So I took the RS4 into the dealer today to...

So I took the RS4 into the dealer today to diagnose what was causing a CEL. It came on for about 2 hours at the beginning of last week and then shut off. "Luckily" it came on again this weekend when I had an appointment scheduled for Monday morning.

I just got the car back today and the invoice lists the following:

SCAN TOOL DIAG. FOUND FAULTS FOR CYLINDERS 2,3,5,7 MISFIRES. CONTACTED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE..TECH ASSISTANCE USED telediagnosis and updated both ECMs to SW 0030. FAULT MEMORIES WERE CLEARED. CHECKED SOFTWARE LEVELS TO VERIFY SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ALSO ADVISED TO PERFORM TSB 2022030/1 ADDING FUEL ADDITIVE. TEST DROVE VEHICLE FOR 60 MILES AS ADVISED IN TSB. UPON RETURN CHECKED FAULT MEMORY. NO FAULTS CURRENTLY STORED IN EITHER ECM...VEHICLE WILL NEED TO BE CHECKED AGAIN ON NEXT COLD START.

I've done a search here, AudiZine, and Quattroworld and couldn't find anything on any of the sites. If anybody here knows what this means, please tell me. Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

Just wondering what everyone's...

Hello all,

Just wondering what everyone's typical around-town driving style is? As I read more and more about potential RS4 carbon buildup issues, I see that everyone says opening the car up and allowing the engine to breathe regularly is the key to a clean and healthy intake manifold. I know every RS4 owner opens it up when given the opportunity, but does that mean that its not a good idea to keep the rev's low when you're driving inconspicuously around the city trying to conserve some gas?

When I'm just cruising around, I typically shift between 3-4k and sometimes even lower depending on traffic situations but often wonder if this is hurting my car at all? Should I be letting it rev higher and does that actually decrease the blowback? Should I always be winding it up through the gears for a healthier engine?

Anyways, thanks in advance for any info/advice you guys have!

Don't get too caught up in the absolute numbers,...

Don't get too caught up in the absolute numbers, we can make the graph say anything we want. For that reason, I tried to include all relevant parameters. Look how flat the torque curve is! It really starts at a lower rpm but one run went whacko and messed up the graph. These five pulls were done after re-installing the air box flap which my car apparently seems to be very fond of, and doesn't like to run without it.

For the record, my car has never thrown a CEL light and has always run like a Swiss watch cold or hot. Even the original DRC suspension still works perfectly. What a great car. Hope I don't have to replace it for a very long time.

First post on AudiWorld.

Arrived here looking...

First post on AudiWorld.

Arrived here looking for info on carbon buildup. RS4 (25K miles in 22 months on Chevron 91) was giving me CELs and I tried to go easy on the service advisor who admonished me to not clicking my gas cap. On inspection it was low fuel pressure in the delivery system and a sensor was out of spec and replaced.

CEL back on yesterday and I dropped it off this morning to get a phone call asking me if it was okay if they added a cleaning agent to the gas and drive it for 60 miles, then wait for a cold restart to check to see if the problem cleared. In the meantime they want to put me into a rental while they sort it out.

I just called for them to stop work to wait for an Audi loaner (they have a 07 CPO RS4 I'll ask for) because I have a feeling the car will be there a while.

In any event, good to be here. Highlights of other cars in my signature. I moderated on another forum for several years and hoping to post more often.

Last year:
Thanks

So, wondering if anyone has purchased the iPhone interface package that hooks into existing phone preparation mount. If so, does it work well and do you recommend it?
Here is the site I saw it on:

Just wondering what are the most common issues with these cars besides the obvious shredded clutch/brakes/tires from hard driving.

I also was wondering if it's easy to put in the front bumper piece with no plate mount. The current car I'm looking at has the plate mount, but I'd want to switch it out. If anyone knows how much those cost I'd also be interested.

Hi everyone! I’m an rs4 owner since 2007, bought mine new and as far cars go I can honestly say that this one might be the best I’ve ever come across
Currently thinking of getting an aftermarket exhaust for it. Haven’t made my mind yet, but probably it’s going to be the HMS valved exhaust from germany, not too pricey and really meaty in terms of sound.
Any tips for me? What really scared me is the probability of the car actually losing power instead of gaining it. Many people have confirmed the possible loss. Does it require a remap when fitting an exhaust?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Guys,

Can anyone suggest what may cause...

Hi Guys,

Can anyone suggest what may cause this? See the Dyno Graph below

A little extra info:
1. Can seems to ping at random (but always used High Octane (98 in Aus = 93 in US). It doesn't only happen on high load, it can happen at any time.
2. Intake Manifold Flaps checked by Audi and they seem to move ok
3. Timing Advance is only 9-15 degrees at 6k rpm while under load (checked on VAG tool)

Any help would be great.

Thanks, Mal.
