Default Audi Driving Experience -Canada

Audi Driving Experience 2013-Canada

Just wanted to provide my feedback on this driving course. I registered for the half day course in Vancouver in Nov 2013. Entire cost of the course including taxes was $415.00. For more details, check out https://theaudiexperience.ca/en. Audi ownership not required.

Welcome and organization.
In typical Audi/German fashion, extremely well organized event. The day began with a visit to BC’s YPK Integrated Driving Centre (http://bcdrivingcentre.com). This is adjoined to the Pitt Meadows Airport and basically is a large piece of airport ashphalt. Upon entering the set up facility (a large tent affixed to semi trailers) you are greeted to a VIP experience. Audi contracts out an event company that takes care of the details. After welcome and signing in, given a catered lunch, and you get to meet the other participants. Our course had about 20 participants. After lunch, Scott Goodyear provides a brief powerpoint and driving tips. Very basic but important skills. The course is set for people with racing experience, driving enthusiasts, and the average driver (me). We were taught basics concepts such as understeer/oversteer, proper steering wheel position, seat position, visibility instructions, proper use of ABS braking in modern cars, and weight transfer.
We were then split into pairs to begin the fun part.

AUDI S5-Small oval course to learn oversteer, understeer, acceleration, weight transfer, braking.
Basically, we drove the S5 as fast as we could around a tight oval, taking turns with our partner. The instructors communicate with each car via walkie talkie.

AUDI TTS-Autocross course to navigate hairpin turns, acceleration, braking, steering, avoiding pylons. Like above, a blast to go as fast as possible through the course.

AUDI A6-TDI-Drag racing. Set up on the airport runway, we lined up next to another A6-TDI and using the Christmas lights, drag raced down the runway with pedal to the floor then slam on the brakes at the end then return to the starting position by going through a slalom course of pylons.

AUDI RS5-Ride along/Hot Lap-ride shotgun, while one of the instructors takes you on a large course. We covered some of the same turns in the earlier course but great to see how a professional handles the same turns!

Ending the day. Upon completion of an evaluation, we are given coffee, desserts, and a loot bag!

Final Thoughts. Quite an experience to take a brand new car and drive it as aggressively as you want, with no concern for wear and tear for the car. Always wanted to put the accelerator to the floor and also slam on the brakes and got to do both. Overall a fun event but could have squeezed in a bit more time behind the wheel. In each car, I was too excited to actually listen to the feedback from the instructors and preferred to just drive. Value for money however was excellent given rates for other courses offered by the competition. Next step…winter driving experience in Calgary for 2013/2014.
