Default Depends what you want the phone for, but the Blackberry Pearl is pretty sweet. That said,...

...I have a Treo 650 and wouldn't want to try to function without it at this point.

I have a TomTom GPS setup for it, plus some very cool 3rd party apps that just make it too useful to consider giving up.

OTOH, it's kinda big and bulky.

If you just want to make phone calls, there are lots of good choices. LGs have easy-to-use menus, I've found, FWTW.

Default I would vote for the BlackBerry or Treo for the short term

I'm waiting for the iPhone. I'm sure you as well as I don't have any work requirements, so network and server based email compatibility is not an issue.

Default I went through four Razors in a month before I settled on a...

SonyEricsson 710a. The telephone is slightly dated now but I have nothing but praise for the high end SonyEricsson cell phones. The provider is AT&T/Cingular.

Default 2nd (until I break down for the iPhone)

Loved my 6682 until it took a swim in the dog's water bowl.

A little pissed that they wouldn't sell me a refurbished or new one (New is only locked w/ I forgot who, refurbished no because mine took water damage). Couldn't see any logic there
