Default S4 should be 3.0L+ biturbo V6. Inline 5 is way too long to mount longitudinally. It's

as long as a V10 if you think about it. Even a V8 should be shorter.

Now cram a V8TT in the new RS4/5 and I would be impressed.

oh I think it could be done. BMW can fit an inline 6cyl twin turbo into the 3 series ;-)

Default It should go into the RS4

It could be done. Word on the street is that there was a 390hp version tested on the Nardo track (which Audi uses) and a even more hot version putting out around 600hp.

Of course I'll believe it when I see it.

Default Isn't Audi limited in how long a longitudinal can be engine due to the quattro design?

BMW's xdrive has the transfer case behind the transmission so it isn't a big deal to slide the engine/transmission combo further back for better weight distribution or to allow for the longer I6 engines.

I can't find a picture of the audi longitudinal quattro setup but I remember that they had a wierd setup with the gearbox and transfer case being integrated into one unit.

Default you're probably right, but it would be nice. They did it before with older quattros

it would be nice to see it again but it probably wasn't as easy as I'm making it out to be.

Default Limited only by the body....

The engine is now mounted on top of the front axle and in front of the transmission so it could be as long as it wants, only limitation is how far out the front bumper is which prevents how long an engine could be used.

With respect to a transversely mounted engine, there are again limits on how much space is available again width-wise.

Default Probably some mad german modding away on the engine seeing how far they can push it

Given that the old 5-cylinder turbos with some upgrades developed a tremendous amount of power and still bulletproof.

The IMSA cars were reported to be around 750, depending on configuration
