Default Holy ****! I never knew it was going to be that expensive of a project...

My engine build and 2.0l conversion is costing be my left nut!

Here's a quick break down (all in USD)...

Long block build: $3700, pistons: $900, bearings: $225, intake vlvs: $250,
Exhaust vlvs: $240, 2.0L crank: $375, oil pump: $175, water pump/timing belt kit with tensioner: $250, cam chain and tensioner: $400, gaskets/seals: $275, oil pan baffling: $100, adjustable cam gear $100, setting the adjustable cam gear: $250, vlv springs and titanium retainers: $500, AEB head: $800, Steel billet CAT cams: $835, 034 intake manifold: $950, Pauter rods: $800, ARP bolts and studs: $350, injectors: $250, VR6 TB: $200, Turbo: $1100, BOV: $350, wastegate: $200, custom made exhaust manifold/piping plus Setrab I/C and piping plus ITG air filter and silicone hoses: $4000, ceramic coating: $500...

So far the total is $18075 but wait were are not finished!

Autronic SM4 standalone: $2500, Clutch Master's dual disk clutch/LWFW: $1400, Dyno tuning including making a new wiring harness: $2000...

That's another $5900 so we are up to $23975, but wait there is more!

Now I'm sure I am forgetting some things but there are two more items that need to be added up here but are unknown at this time money wise because we don't know how much time is going to go into these items.

We might do some head work but we are going to stick to a minimum. Basically clean up what's needed and port match the intake and exhaust if required. This could cost between $500 and $1150.

Also the dyno needs an operator (other than the tuner) that will assemble and disassemble the motor within the dyno room and actually operate the dyno for the tuner. His time depending on how long it takes to re/re the motor and actually tune the motor could vary between $760 to $1520.

So you can easily add another couple of thousands on top of the $23975!

Default Michael, isn't it cheaper just to buy a track specific car, like

exige S, gt3, ariel atom
or it's more because it's already got out of hand.
so might as well go big or go home.

THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY.

All 3 are too expensive to buy to start.

The Ariel is an open cockpit car which is not as safe in case of a crash so for me it's a no, no.

The Exige S is cool but here again it is too expensive to buy, it's a plastic car and adding a roll cage to it would be impossible and/or cost way too much money and then maybe some mods would be needed. In the end it would cost a lot more then my modified A4.

The GT3 would be nice but here again the money upfront to purchace one is way too much. Altough very little would have to be done modification wise the car would still require a full roll cage so more money on top of the purchase. Also a 996 GT3 would be slower then my modified A4 and I'm not so sure a 997 GT3 would be faster either.

The STaSIS/Ohlins Motorsport suspension is out for modifications and once that's back in and the rear suspension's work/modifications are done the car should be race ready.

The only thing left to do will be to wait to see how much power comes out of the engine. If we get what I hope for then the car should be very fast.

Ah, the joys of having someone else mod your car.
Just count your lucky stars you didn't do this on a rotary powered car.

Some people just have way too much money to spend, especially in light of the current economy! :-)
