Default Discussion in the office regarding rust spray treatement to vehicles.... why doens't VW/Audi

recommend it when others do?

Does it have to do with the galavanized steel on our cars?
Do other manufacturers use galvanized steel?

Whats the general consensus?

Default Yes, I think it's due to use of galvanized steel

and IIRC, my A4 had a 12 year perforation warranty too.

Or in some cases (like mine) 100% alluminium body, when rust spray is useless

Default All our cars have galvanized parts ...

the only thing we offer is undercoating. That is why we're the only manufacturer that offers a 12 year warranty. Also, some of our cars; A6, A8, have covers under the cars that go from front to back that will make it very difficult to even apply undercoating.
"Audi's unique and environmentally friendly paint process uses multiple layers of paint applied over a chip-resistant filler. Additional impact protection comes from special coatings in vulnerable areas, such as the rocker panels. The use of 100-percent, two-sided, zinc-galvanized steel and a comprehensive paint, primer and protection system helps assure that its life will be a long one. All Audi models are backed by a 12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation"

What about the frame itself? What's to stop it from rusting? Can it rust?

I guess it can rust just like any car would. The thing is how long will it take?

Default my 15 year old 90 has a bit of rust on the frame under the engine but...

other than that the car looks almost new, couple of small scratches here and there.

When I tell other people that the car has 15 years they don't believe me.

The car does not have any other protection than the standard factory coting.

Just look at the price of any 4-5 yr old A8 or S8. Talk about depreciation!
