Couple of AudiOttawa guys got the letters
One went to get the recall check performed, haven't heard back from him since we told him he'd misread the letter, and would be paying TB repair out of his own pocket if it was required.
I'm assuming his silence means we were proven correct

I got one...booked in for next week
I would assume if it needs to be replaced it would be at my cost, and the extended warranty only covers damage due to failure between the 40k inspection intervals.
My 2001 has 94k and since the recommended replacement is 120k mine hasn't been done. Should I expect that they'll want to replace it?

I recived my inspection letter a while back 3-4 yrs ago for my 1.8T B5...
When I went in, they didn't do much just popped the plastic cover in the front of the engine to reveal the timing belt, looked in and "inspected" the rubber belt for cracks, not sure what they do now.
The Service Tech told me if I wanted a full inspection I would have to pay a few hours to have them pull the bumper, and rad support so that they could access the area better. I asked him what's the point of the "Inspection" letter if you're just going to only look at the belt and nothing else, and why the full inspection is not what should transpire due to the letter.
Needless to say I took my business else where and got the belt done for piece of mind.

Audi cash grab (not unlike the City of Toronto's $60 license renewal fee)
Got the letter, took it in for inspection and lo and behold...the timing belt needs to be replaced at 69K in order for Audi to honour the 170K extended warranty.
That in and of itself isn't the turn off. It's that Audi Downtown wants $1300.00 to do the timing belt replacement.
I guess they need an infusion of $$$ to finish their brand spanking new facility at the foot of bayview.....
