AWC Rim Refinishing & Economics BT: Today our subject is my 4 B5S4 Avus rims.
Issue: I've got 4 B4S5 Avus rims that I don't need. The tires attached to said rims are worthless. All the rims need to be refinished after 6 years of use. Some are better than others but all could use a little lovin'.
Options:
1) Refinish the rims myself as others have done and then try and sell them. There is a materials (paint) and time cost that needs to be factored in.
2) Try and sell the rims as is and spare myself the money and time spent refinishing. Maybe someone wants to paint them a different colour in which case they would rather have unfinished rims.
3) Refinish the rims and keep them. Sell the 16" rims I have for my snows and use the refinished rims for snows.
4) Weld them together and create some sort of lawn ornament.
Thoughts?

Is there a market for these rims?
I was never a fan of the Avus rims to begin with, and they certainly look dated now. So I am not sure how much more you would fetch by refinishing them.
Keep as snows, I say.

IMHO...
1) If you are going to keep them it might be worth it if you have the time and money, other wise sell.
2) I think this is the best bet, again if you have time by all means refinish them they might get higher resale.
3) Larger rim = more money tire wise.
4) This gets my second vote!

#2. wait until the fall and then sell them for use as winters as is...
... someone should take em for more than it would cost you to refinish them.
