Anyone ever been to a shuttle launch. I'll be in Florida on Wednesday and
would love to go. Wondering if its one of those cool "I was there" moments, or if it's one of those "It's better on TV moments".

I've been wanting to do the same for a while now. Go to Disney and shuttle launch on the same trip.
Just waiting for my kid to get old enough. If you want to go, better check the ticket availability cause they sell out fast. The only way to see it now (from relatively up close) is from the space center.

Yah, the space centre tickets are sold out, so the only option is from
"public" areas. NASA suggests:
Along the Indian River on U.S. Highway 1, especially in Titusville.
The Beach Line Expressway, also called State Road 528. The portions of the Beach Line crossing over the Indian River (the Bennett Causeway) and the Banana River are good vantage points.
Off State Road A1A along the Atlantic Ocean in Cocoa Beach.
Jetty Park (321) 783-7111 at Port Canaveral, on the Atlantic Ocean just south of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station border. Both Space Shuttle and expendable launch vehicle liftoffs can be viewed from here. The park is open all day year-round.
I've posted in the Florida forum to get the "local" opinion b/c I don't want to drive 3 hours to view it from 20kms away...but at the same time it'd be cool to see even from far away.

There's a guy on the photog section...
...stanj, a long AW member here and he has access at NASA and gets really awesome shots of the shuttle being prepped.
I threw out a question to him on any other spots that he could recommend.
