Default Doing brakes on A6 for first time

I have never done brakes on my A6 before and was looking for some advice. I have done brakes (rotors and pads) on tons of other vehicles namely BMW, Mitsubishi and others.

Anything out of the ordinary I should watch for?

Also, what is with the four pad per wheel thing and what are "girling brakes"?

Thanks!
