A few months ago I 'upgraded' to an ECS brake kit(new caliper brackets, rotor and pads. Old Calipers used). Install went fine however I forgot to put in the 4 small washers per side for the new caliper brackets resulting in a hideous grinding noise when I tried to drive it out of my driveway.
I quickly realized my error and put the spacers in and no more grinding but then the ABS / Brake lights came on and stayed on. Just today I was able to troubleshoot and took a look at my speed sensors. They look somewhat ground down on the ends although I fail to see how the caliper spacing would cause this...
Could this be the cause of my ABS light? I have not logged with VAG yet, thats on the agenda for tomorrow, but I thought the group may have some wisdom about how much damage these expensive little pieces can take before they give up the ghost.
Any other ABS troubleshooting tips? I'll be logging Channel 001 tomorrow and pinpoint the wheel(s) causing the issue. The pads (Hawks) have the wear sensors (what code would that throw?) and before the brake kit install (Pads/Rotors/Caliper bracket/fluid flush) all was well.

Start by...
Start by removing all 4 wheels and making sure that all 4 sensors are firmly seated in the wheel uprights. Then carefully inspect all the wires for the sensors. I think that maybe 1 sensor is loose, or maybe you pinched or cut a wire when putting those new brakes in. The sensors are pretty robust, and they don't usually fail unless the wires are damaged or the sensor gets really banged up during removal.

So I hooked up my VAG to take a look at 03 (ABS) and it tells me "can not communicate with module".
Car is running and other modules connect just fine.
This sounds expensive?

ewwwwww. sounds like someone needs a new module...
I'm no expert on this topic but if you search you'll find countless reviews about www.modulemaster.com
Check their website and search the forums, this is a fairly common problem with the Bosch units used on the 99.5+ cars.
Not for certain though. just what it sounds like to me.
