Default Bruck, others: how many of the pins/8 off the back of the icelink are required?

i'm putting my ipod/cradle up in the armrest. we only get 8 wires going from the trunk to there. I was hoping to use two for switched power/ground for my phone, and maybe others for handsfree.

any options? do i neeed all 8 wires connected?

lou: did you chop the cradle wire with the 8 pin dsub connector and solder those to a db25 male connector? then solder the other end of the cradle wire to an ethernet cable?
that's my plan. i'd rather not screw it up. :-)

if i have to use all 8 pins, do you know which are power and ground coming from the icelink? maybe i can use those for my phone charger? maybe that's a bad idea?

Default mini-DIN-8 pinout.

mini-DIN-8 pinout
i'll connect pin 1 of the DIN connector to pin one of the RJ45, etc.

---------
/ 8 7 6 \
( 5 4 3 )
\ 2 1 /
---------
and the RJ45 pinout:

Default how I did it

I did not use any audi stock wiring for my installtion for a few reasons.

1) I learned that Nav+ and icelink only work together if you connect directly to the back of the headunit, so I could not run thru the trunk wire.

2) I actually ran the instructed "behind the head unit" wire past my ebrake and shifter behind my stereo into the rear of my nav+.

I have my bluetooth module located behind my glovebox (read: above passenger footwell) and I wired it all on it's own as well. I know alot of people have used audi's provided wires to do the job in different ways but I have not gone this route with any of my mods. I originally ran the CDC trunk cable for my icelink WAY BACK WHEN I didn't have nav+ and I am familiar with the pin outs of that cable if that's what you want. I just need to look up some of the notes I made, but I won't be as helpful for that setup because of the way I did mine in the end.
