Finally, OEM Audi iPod integration kit (unofficial thread) - Coming the Summer of 2005
Folks,
I've recently learned of new development from Audi USA: The OEM iPod integration kit. For the past three years, the only OEM MP3 offering from Audi was the PhatNoise PhatBox system (see my sig for my installation experience). Also, for anyone who currently owns an Apple iPod or comparable MP3 player (Dell DJ, Nomad etc.), there are several other [hardwire] installation methods. Just do a search on this audio forum and you'll find a wealth of information (hint: searching the forum first is the preferred method).
It is unclear whether or not Audi is reselling the Dension IceLink (if so, expect a 25%+ markup) or they've contracted with another company to develop this device. Does anyone no the answer to this question? Based on the details in the pdf below, it seems to mirror the capabilities of the IceLink (i.e. access to 5 playlists etc.). We will have to wait and see.
Audi Part#: 8E0 051 444
Available Mid-Summer 2005
* Compatible with a majority of A3, A4, TT, allroad and previous generation A6 and A8 sound systems. (Not compatible with A6 2005> or A8/A8L 2004>.)
** Cannot be used in combination with glovebox CD changer, PhatNoise⬬? or Satellite (I bet someone on this forum will provide a way to use the OEM Satellite radio in conjuction with this device - Ultrasport Sal…???).
Some other details by Audi model (I might be making some assumptions, we'll see):
A3: Not familiar enough with those head units to make any statements. Anyone?
TT: Should work with the Concert I and II head units
B5 A4/S4: Should work with the Symphony I head unit (not sure about CD-based Nav+ head unit)
B6 A4/S4: Should work with the Symphony II or Concert II head units (not sure about CD-based Nav+ or DVD-based RNS-E head units)
B7 A4/S4: Should work with the Symphony II or Concert II head units (not sure about CD-based Nav+ or DVD-based RNS-E head units)
C5 A6/S6/RS6/allroad: Should work with the Concert I, Symphony I and Symphony II head unit (not sure about CD-based Nav+ or DVD-based RNS-E head units)
C6 A6: Nope (due to fibre optic protocols in MMI/MOST architecture)
D2 A8/S8: Should work with the Concert I, Symphony I and Symphony II head unit (not sure about CD-based Nav+ head unit)
D3 A8: Nope (due to fibre optic protocols in MMI/MOST architecture)
