I have a 01 Bose
anything I should know before I upgrade my speakers? I just wanna pick up some adapters and put speakers in the front doors and rear doors, and hopefully I can put something (like 2 boston 6"s on the rear deck for bass.

Yea, you can't just plug and play since you have bose.
Bose system is powered off an outboard amp. It's in the trunk behind the left panel. You can probably see it just behind (closer to front of car) the CD changer mounting.
Bose designs their speakers to use a 3 ohm load IIRC. It's not 2ohms, and it's not 4ohm. It's 1 or 3. But I forgot which.
In any event, that means the amp is design to drive a 3ohm load nothing else. You're running the risk of putting on a standard 4ohm speaker on that amp of burning out the amp or frying the speaker. If the bose amp was any decent, it would work, but just put out less power, but it's not worth risking it.
You have two options:
1) Buy an aftermarket amp
2) Buy an adaptor piece. There is a website that sells stuff specifically for bose systems but I forgot the URL.
The front doors take a 5.25" woofer and 1" tweet.
The rear doors take a 6.5" woofer and 1" tweet.
The rear decks take a 6.5" woofer.
You need adaptors for front and rear doors. MBQuart makes them but you can make your own from ABS Plastic or some wood if you own a dremel and are handy.

oh, thanks
I didn't know they were an odd resistance... hum -- well, smokeya4turbod is sending me some from scotland.. he can get them here for $26 a pair -- the adapters.. MB quart wanted $50..
I'm pretty handy and have access to lots of tools, but oh well, i guess i'll just wait to see these ones he is sending.
I guess its new amp time. I have an Alpine Expert 40x4 amp under my bed.. do you think it has enough power to push the speakers for the car? (MRV-F305)

Yea, that amp is good
Even if you had an amp that did 15x4, it's gonna sound 100x better than running the amp from the HU or the crappy bose amp. 40x4 will be a nice amount for your mids/highs.
