Default Tapping into the CD changer harness

I wanted to use my empeg in my new S4, but I didn't want to ditch the stock head unit. There are other options for getting the audio into the system, but this way I retain the stock volume control, GALA, etc.

I modified the schematic a little for my own use, I have the output from the changer switched into the aux input of the empeg, works nicely, I can switch between the changer and the empeg with the remote, and when the empeg is pulled out, the changer works as before.

I wasn't able to find a usable radio switched power wire in the harness, I found 2 11.5 volt lines, but they muted the audio when I tried to run even a small relay off them, I'll probably investigate the harness for the amp and wire off of that, but for now the empeg just runs 24/7.

I've mounted the empeg in the trunk where the nav unit is supposed to go, I'd like to move the climate control like they did in the URL below, but I haven't taken the headliner apart to see if there is enough room with all the sunroof controls/motors in the way.

http://www.jlaudio.com/installs/Audi/part5.html</a

Default I have so many questions its not even funny.

While this work with any RCA device?
Must I have a CD Changer?
How is the sound quality?
Where does the remote come in?

Any rca device should work, sound quality is great, and I believe you have to have the changer, otherwise the head unit won't switch its inputs to the changer leads. The remote is the remote for the empeg, I have the output of the cd changer going to the input of the empeg, so I can switch back and forth.

I picked up my changer from stratmosphere and cut up their adapter cable that goes between the aftermarket cd changer and the factory wiring harness.

I'm not that familiar yet with the head unit and changer output; are they actually RCA connectors, or is it just a matter of RCA-compliant signals? I'm planning to employ this setup with the trackz player and this looks like the ticket. I wonder now, if the circuitry can be enhanced to automatically switch to the 2nd device based on its activation. Actually, now that I think about it, this would probably be easy.

I haven't dug into the head unit output, there is a faq floating around here somewhere for that.

The CD changer connectors are 13 pin DIN style,
you either need to buy the right connectors, or cut into the wiring to tap in. I bought a aftermarket changer, it came with a 12 inch adapter cable I cut in half and soldered to a PCB in a radio shack project box. It was easy to tap the lines from there, just solder the right jumper wires between the relay, the two halves of the harness wiring and the radio shack female RCA connectors and it all works.

If the second device has a amp or power antenna trigger like the empeg does, it's really easy, that's what the relay is for, even if it doesn't it's not that hard, be creative

13 pin DIN picture, just an example, go pull out your changer and look
