Default Speaker over throwing itself at moderate volume

I have MB Quart 5.25" in the front of a B5 S4, and only the passenger speaker sounds like it is overthrowing the woofer. They are being powered by JL 300/4 amp.

Any suggestions to fix this?
Should I turn down the gain on the amp? but then would change the fader output.
Change the cross over setting?

Default Not clear on what you mean by overthrowing...

Is the speaker hitting something as it moves forward?

Is it making "farting" noises? If so, how long has it been in there? Could it be damaged? Where have you been running the bass setting on the deck?

Are you running the speaks full range... or is the xover in the 300/4 on?

Is there a subwoofer?

Default I don't believe the speaker is hitting something, I have the cross over set at 80 hz. It just sounds

like the woofer is making a slapping/ popping noise but not the popping from amplifier noise. And not the buzz that accompanies a blown speaker. This only occurs on the front passenger side.

There is no bass boost set on the deck. Everything is set for a flat frequency response.

There is a separate sub-woofer powered by its own 250/ 1 amp.

Default Don't generalize on "blown" speakers... damaged speakers manifest differently...

... if your car were in our shop we would go to the amp, swap left and right speaker wires, and see if the problem moved.

If it remained with the same speaker we'd pull that door and look for loose screws and a loose mounting.

If we couldn't find any of that, we'd pull the other door and swap the L and R drivers and see what happened.

Default Re: Speaker over throwing itself at moderate volume

A little late with the reply, but I just fixed this same problem. The solution does not make much sense to me, but it works. That is, it stops the buzzing. Also, I have a B5 A4, so I'm not sure of the difference in the speaker setup, but I would think they are similar at least.

I removed the speaker from the mount and it did not buzz. No marks, tears, or anything to indicate a blown speaker. Put it back on the mounts and it started buzzing. I loosened one of the mounting screws and the buzzing stopped. So, I put a small washer between the speaker mounts on the door and the screw mounts on the speaker and it works so far. Lost a little bass response, but until I find a better way that is what i have now
