Audi Connect: replace SIM with 4G SIM?
I've heard that in my Q5 the SIM speed will only be 2G. I assume that data speeds are device (i.e., audi connect)limited rather than SIM limited. I'm just wondering if it's possible to replace the dealer SIM with a 4G SIM from T-Mobile. T-Mobile has no contracts, and if you buy a 4G device (such as an iPad) I assume you can yank the SIM out of the car's slot and stick it in the iPad's.
Wondering if this would work to increase data speeds (guessing not) and enable a SIM to be shared with a separate device (guessing yes?).

The SIM should be T-mobile 3G (aka UMTS) speeds, but not faux-G (i.e. HSPA/HSPA+) speeds, so around 1-3 mbit with 200-300ms ping.
If you replace it with an AT&T SIM, you'll only get 2G / EDGE speeds.
This is a hardware limitation with this generation of Audi connect. The radio only supports the AWS spectrum for 3G, which in the US is only used by some portion of the T-mobile network. In Europe, it is the standard band for 3G providers.
