Default Bad display, VW passat

My friends VW passat 2001, has a "bad computer display". Have a look at picture on the attached link.

Anyone knows what this might be. Is it the display that needs to be replaced, or is it some solderings points on the back of the display that needs to be resoldered ?

Picture: bad display
