Audio System stuck on mute

Default Audio System stuck on mute
Hello all,

Everytime i try to turn the volume up on my car using the steering wheel or the **** by the shifter, it just stays in mute, i even disconnected the battery to see if it would reset somehow, but i t didnt .. is anyone else having this problem?

i forgot to mention what kind of car is was .. it is an Audi 2006 A6 3.2 w/ Navi 20,000 miles.
