Default Paging K Marshall

Kevin...

I'm about to buy some rcomps for the R8 and am considering the R888's. I'm also considering going to a 305/30 on the rears.

Do you have any feedback regarding the 888's or going fatter on the rear?

I will be doing my first track day this year in April at Thunderhill with a private group and will most likely keep the rcomps on even for the street. Mileage or wear are not really a concern.

Default I used R888's on an RS4 last year....

...and really, really liked them. They stick really well on a warm track, and the tread is the same from left to right, so if you get some uneven wear you can get the tires turned inside out for a few more track days. I am getting them later this spring for my R8 as well.

If you're using them for the street, just be careful if you wear them down a little from the track and encounter wet roads. They are fine in the wet when new, but scary when they have some wear on them. Depends on how many track days you plan to do on them, I would say. I know others that don't track their car, and get up to 20,000 street miles on the R888.

Default I would love to try the R888's! Since my wheels are 20's ans I'm lowered, Stasis guys calc'd...

... 255 front and 325 rear to keep the drive ratios and diameters (considering wear as well) within the factory front to rear ratios. I ended up with Michelin Sport Pilots for my street tires. I would guess that a 255 front, 305 rear would be a good mix to help minimize understeer. If you are not lowered, you may be able to run a 265/305 and really have a good balance. Just watch the diameter ratio front to rear. I'd recommend calling Stasis and discussing tire sizing with them... they are pretty knowledgeable.

For track tires, i do have a set of new Pirelli 19 inch slicks from my old 430 challenge... they'll fit the R8 stocker rims... that could make for a fun day on the track!

Default V V V Thank you V V V

I plan to pick up some tires this week as on Friday I bubbled a front tire after hitting a pot hole buried in water... fvck!

The r888's have been getting some good reviews and I'll follow up with Stasis to verify a sizing.

Oh... here's a product page from AIM Tires over at Infineon. They have some excellent prices on track tires!

R888 price sheet

Default 20K miles on R888S! I don't want to insult you but I call BS on that. You would be hard pressed...

To get more than 12K miles on PS2s, RE-01Rs and such tires on the street so I doubt 20K miles on an R compound tires.

People I know that were using the older RA1s were getting between 5K and 8K out of them for street use.

Also most people don't know that these tires are not intended for street use at all even if they have a D.O.T> certification.

Just my $0.02.

Default Re: Paging K Marshall

I have a 2009 R8 with the premium wheel upgrade -- the rears are 19"XL 305/30's, so you shouldn't have any trouble with that spec (given the right wheels)
