Was the new Maserati Granturismo considered by any R8 owners or to-be R8 owners?

Not by me as a future R8er...that alfa 8C Competizione was even sexier in my opinion than the
Maserati. If I was looking for sex appeal over better performance the Aston's still seem to be the cleanest looking GT cars.

A much more practical consideration and given how the latest QP drove on Skyline Blvd
(a delightful twisty mountain road), it bodes well. The suspension in the latest QP is lovely, with the standard setting being Mercedes creamy/mushy in the best real estate agent chariot school of rides, while the pushing the sport button locks things down, the car sheds 400lbs, and the wheelbase feels like it shrinks 2 feet. The GranTurismo is maybe more a Mercedes SL or Aston competitor in the school of GT cars methinks, than a more focused mid-engined howler. After all, it can fit 4 people in a pinch, something most others in the class do not manage. A more hard core 2 seat Maser based on the Alfa 8C is rumoured to be in the works.

I find the car extremely beautiful... but thats not enough for me to bail out on my order!
If I could afford both, I wouldn't waist a minute with that decision. I've always enjoyed Maserati's and the GT is a class act!

I would have agreed 100% with you until I tried the new auto in the QP. The best trans this side of
rowing your own and totally on par with DSG, and I say this having tried many DSG driven cars to date.

Maserati has a checkered past regarding service and support in the US... who remembers the BiTurbo (okay we all want to forget that piece of crap... But with their in-out-in-out policy... I looked seriously at the Maserati prior to putting my $$$$ down for the R8...bottom line, I know Audi will be here in 10 yrs if I need service and support... Who know's who'll own Maserati (seems to change ownership every few years) and whether theyll be in the US then.
