Never knew there was an R8 forum. How does the R8 compare to the GT2? Or is that apples and oranges?

Apples and Oranges
The GT-2 is pretty out there. Very edge of the razor kind of car, the R8 is more of an everyday driver. There's no doubt the GT-2 and even the Turbo will leave it in the dust. But the drivability of the R8 is what I'm interested in. That and the unexpected exclusivity. In my neck of the woods, no one even notices a Porsche anymore, cept maybe a Carrera GT.

no comparison
there aren't many stock cars that you can compare to the GT2 as far as performance (GT2 'ring time has been reported at 7 min 32 sec)- on the other hand earlier versions were considered Porsche's "widowmaker". R8 will be a far better everyday driver than the GT2 (but no better than the turbo as an everyday driver).

not sure the 997 TT will leave the R8 in the dust
it is a faster car in terms of acceleration, but the R8 handles just as well, or better, as can be seen from various track comparos that have been published. in that, the R8 is an overachiever as it really is more of a 997 4S X50 competitior imo.
when the V10 comes out we can talk all out, no excuses, 997 TT comparisons, especially if a turbo S model is released.
the GT2. that is a stripped down track day special kind of car. kind of an F430 stradale and gallardo superleggera competitor.

Let me say this
APR ownes a 996T a 997T and I have 4 full track days with the R8. The R8 is hands down better than both of those P cars. I love the Porches but the new king is the R8. So anyone who says the 997T will leave the R8 in the dust is dead wrong.
I cant tell you guys enough how good the R8 is. It really has set a new standard for the $110-$130 price range.

Re: Let me say this
I was only referring to 0-60 times, the Porsches are obviously going to be faster accelerating than the R8. On a track might be a different matter. But to go against the Porsches, we will need the V10, or maybe Stephen will have a twin turbo kit for us soon. ;-)

Re: I think you will change your mind in regards to a better daily driver.
I respect your knowledge and experience but I'd like you to explain how any 911, let alone the turbo, aren't wonderful everyday drivers. My interpretation of everything I've read is that now the world has two choices when it comes to an everyday supercar - Porsche and Audi
I haven't driven a R8 yet, but explain to me why it's a better everyday driver than my turbo - less road noise from the tires? a prettier interior?
I don't get it.

here's a different perspective
Caymans and Boxsters are easier cars to drive at the limit than the 911, so I'm not surprised that a 420 hp mid engine car can get around a tight technical circuit as fast or faster than a 911. So for the "average driver" (including the slew of journalist drivers who have commented on this issue) I have no doubt that the R8 is easier to pilot at the limit. But I too believe that a properly piloted 997tt will have no problem handling the R8 - the v10 will be another story
Waiting for some "official" 'Ring times to see how well sorted the V8 R8 actually is - anyone have this information?
