Audi R8 vs. 996 X50 Turbo? Anyone compare the two when shopping?

Why not a 993TT...or Turbo S......I'm keen on the air-cooled cars. Porsche pretty much turned a page (a bad one IMHO) in 1998 when they laid off 2/3 of their work force and started producing the water-cooled variety. Not that there is anything wrong with trying to maximize corporate profits, but to many, the baby went out with the bath water in 1998. I've got (2) of the air-cooled variety. Both are beasts........the one with (2) turbos is silly.

I'm one of those AC jocks...........
With two of the air-cooled variety:
993TT - with Fabspeed exhaust
964 Turbo S2 - One of twenty - K27, cams, modified intercooler and other goodies included in the TS2 option in 1992 ($11k option - Approx $17k in 2007 dollars.)
I wouldn't say the 996 and 7 are too cushy or not edgy enough. I would say that Ferdinand Porsche may very well have rolled over in his grave in 1998 when Porsche laid off 2/3 of their workforce and commenced production of the H2O motors. With that said, he would likely be continuing to roll in his grave (in the opposite) direction given the financial rewards which have been bestowed upon Porsche (as a result of the H2O motors) since 1999 and have facilitated a plethora of new models.

Very beautiful cars. Love the Guards Red also.

The first experience I ever had with our cars was a weekend with a 1990 Turbo (a 964) - my then girlfriend's dad's car. Amazing handling, extremely fast, and loads of fun.
"Gee, we must have been doing around 90!" "No, it was 130."
As far as looks go, I love the 964, though I do prefer the somewhat less flamboyant look of the 996 and 997 - probably my Audi experience influencing me, given the understated look of the S/RS4.
