The charger designed directly for the iPhone has a circular magnet, which allows it to be precisely centered, and also has an optimized magnetic field, which in total allows you to charge the iPhone efficiently.
The car has a universal charger installed and the magnetic field is not distributed optimally. That's why the phone gets hot and doesn't charge well. Nothing can be done about this; physics cannot be fooled.

yes it has some 3 ring induction loop design, that in theory is supposed to allow a person to place their phone more haphazardly and still achieve wireless charging. I saw a picture of it somewhere...if i can relocate it, i'll post it.

Frankly, the first time I ever saw a message on my phone indicating charging was suspended because the phone was too hot was when I tried to use the wireless charging in my SQ8.

I've given up trying to charge wirelessly; I just leave a USB cable in the center compartment and plug my iPhone 14 in to that. Faster, too.

It's the only place in the car to put a phone. This is my first Audi and I hate the crappy center console storage.

Wireless charging can be disabled in the MMI

Default 2024 Q4. Same deal.

Way too hot. Was streaming and commuting an hour. About 25% added charge. But with this heat id literally believe it affects the EV range as well. Stupid. And likely dangerous...
