TAP Chip

TAP Chip
I need some advice if I should get this chips from this guy. He is selling 2 TAP stage 1 chips for $250, but I heard that TAP is not a good chip vs. MTM. I don't know what should I do. I have stock ECU now and I don't know if I will be able to install it myself. The guy said that I will have to send it to TAP. I don't want to do that.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: TAP Chip
I believe that all TAP chips are soldered to the board, i.e. no sockets. I don't know what their code is now but one of our club members had a TAP chip set that turned out to be a clone of the Lehman code. You'd have to ask them what code they are using now (they may not tell you or claim it is "proprietary").

I would stay away from it. I don't want to slander.... but more inside
I bought my car with a Tap stage 1 chip. I was very unimpressed.
The car was "fast" but it was not smooth in the least. It was also running about 16-17 mpg. I thought that was just the deal with these cars.
The guys at Northern European Automotive in Concord NH convinced me to blow the 700 bucks and get their Stage 1 chip with a custom 3 bar transducer. I cannot explain the difference with words.
The car ran .5 faster on the strip, felt 100 times smoother. And I'm back in the low 20's for MPG on the highway.
I've heard nothing but good about MTM and would recommend them, ASW, or NEA for a chip.
However... 250 bucks is cheap, so if you want to try the TAP chip... here's a low price opportunity to do so.
If you live anywhere in the New England area and want to drive another stage 1 for comparison, let me know.

Thank you man. You so helpful. I live in bay area california. I would like to test drive car with a chip but to far. If you don't recomend TAP than I will not even buy it. You have to know what you doing with that chip, I mean how to instal it, so I don't know. I think about it. Thank you though.
