Not necessarily
There is some confusion with the different tranny's. Later version of the 5-speed are better than the earlier ones. Something to do with a wider and/or hardened mainshaft. HOWEVER, I understand that some of the earlier 6-speeds have the same issues. If I had a 6-speed in the used car I bought, great. Would I just buy one off of a random guy on ebay.de? No way. Many of the 6-speeds that have been brought over here and installed came through one guy (Robert Braunschweig) in Germany, that had a guy named Kluge check them out, Kluge is the guy that developed the tranny in the first place and has since retired and did this on the side. In any case, Braunschweig as of last month has said he is getting out of the business.
All that being said, if I had a choice between a 6speed and a 5speed and all other things are equal and the 6speed worked fine, I would get the 6speed.

I think I've got his phone number around somewhere.
