Default Rear diff not working. I STFA and didn't find any help.

My rear diff has stopped working recently. When I push the button nothing happens, no light, no sound, nothing. What should I look at first to diagnose the problem?

Default Had that happen on the Pink Tornado.

The switch was bad.

Default I am pretty sure your diff is working. However the diff LOCK might not be. Its vacuum activated.

Goodies are under the rear seat. Bentley has some info.

Heh. I thought the same damn thing. "How's he driving with the rear diff broken?"

Default I made the assumption that he meant the lock, after talking...

...about the behavior of the switch.

Default The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred.

Never assume anything. Have it spelled out. Clarity is underutilized.

Default I guess a trade-off must be made...

...especially in the text-only arena. I have heard that humans receive over 80% of information visually - and text is verbal communication (technically.)

Another thing is trying to be polite - being a complete stickler can make someone look like an *** - and I'll tell you what, I *do not* need any additional help in that area!

Yes, it's possible to have misunderstandings using my technique. For which I have no problem apologizing, if my assumptions are wrong. I will say this: in general, I do agree with your assessment. Clarity is often missing in all sorts of comms, due to laziness on the part of one of the people trying to communicate. After all, how many times a month do we have to write "STFA" or "your car is broken" due to lazy people?

Default Yes, the diff itself is working, but the diff lock is not

I am a big fan of not making assumptions, but sometimes it must be done when people don't communicate exactly what they mean (ie don't post that it's actually the diff LOCK that is busted) My bad :-)
