porportioning valve rear brakes, do we have this? does it need to be bled?
while browsing numerous pages of archives I came across only two posts that mention bleeding this valve. other than the 2 posts it's never heard around here, should it be done?
also was reading tips on bleeding Porsche brakes (for the 914) and they describe bleeding procedure same as here but also bleed porportioning valve
thanks

There is a proportioning valve...
on my '93 S4. It's located right in front of the driver's side rear wheel on the bottom of the car.
The procedure I use is to pull the "U-hook" on the proportioning valve downwards and hold it in the widest open position with a screw driver (there's a nice hole in the frame perfect for this), and then bleed both rear brake calipers normally.
Just remember to remove the screwdriver afterwards. )
If you need pictures let me know and I can try and snap a couple tonight for you.

It depends- if you have a 95.5 or later S6 (no diff lock), then no proportioning valve...
The 95.5 and up cars got upgraded ABS and EDL, eliminating the need for the proportioning valve.
All earlier S-cars should have one, though.
