Default It was the Mass Air Sensor [MAS]!

Since buying my S4 I've suffered with (1) cold start idle problems, (2) significant RPM drop when the Air Con was turned on ... and (3) a slight hesitation at WOT.

Numerous suggestions and 'helpful tips' from here and elsewhere failed to cure the problem.

In desperation I ran some checks on the MAS today .... it fell at every fence!

So, I went out and brought a new one and WOW what a difference ..... I love these cars.

http://www.unicomsystems.co.uk</a

Can you post what you did to test/check the MAS?

Would love to know how to check my own...

Cheers, /James.

Sounds EXACTLY like my problem. What tests did you run on it? TIA

Default Nice write-up. Did you try to clean the sensor? Past owner of mine put in a K&N filter.........

and I suspect that they oiled it too much and it's messing up the MAS.

Default Unconvinced by the K&N oil reports ....

Despite what we might read on the likes of AW, from new [and forever thereafter if correctly re-oiled] there is no way that a hotwire, self-cleaning Bosch MAF can become contaminated by a K&N and its' oil. Bosch have been using that type of sensor in TD commercial vehicle applications utilising 'oil-bath' air cleaners for years. I've heard tales of everything from olive oil to old engine oil being used on the wire-mesh filter elements in less developed parts of the world! ....... "but each to his own" eh?

I've often used carburettor cleaner on MAF/MAS sensors. No problems ever encountered other than with some Ford units where the plastic body melts!

Default So I take it you just replaced it and didn't try to "clean" it..........

I'm suffering from what sounds like the same problem. I keep thowing the code 2413. My mileage stinks all of the sudden, it isn't starting like it did a few months ago (takes several cranks), the car's idle is super low when the AC is on and then jumps up to about 1400 for about 2 seconds, it has a total flat spot everytime I hit 3K rpms and in general just feels weak. I want my fun back!! 8^(
