Lately my car has smelled strongly of gas after starting it in the cold...
It stinks for a few minutes and then the smell goes away after it's warmed up.
Months ago I had my car inspected at an Audi dealer and they said I needed a new fuel rail because I had a fuel leak. I didn't believe it (having not had any issues or smells, and no unusual evidence under the hood), so I took the car to another garage who told me it had no leak.
This smell seems to have appeared after having a new fuel pump put in for me a couple months ago (via the new garage). I had them look for the cause of the smell on a later visit and they charged me $450 dollars for a big inspection and told me they found no smell.
Ideas? Is it normal for the car to smell in the cold? I think my mileage is also down a bit, but it's hard to tell because the weather is much colder lately and lower mileage in the cold is to be expected.
Thanks.

Has your car had the fuel line recall done? Leaking when cold is the classic symptom...
It could also be your fuel rail- where the braided line meets the hard line is usually where they leak. Pop the hood and check right after starting, and see if you can see any seepage.
