Default Install OE Alpine CD changer in a C4 Avant: With or without plastic base shield?

My "new" 98 C4 A6 avant did not come with the advertized CD changer (I think they mistook the Bose subwoofer on the right side for a CD changer). The left side "well" where the CD changer goes (I now have the bracket and changer) has a plastic base shield/cover thing. Does the CD changer bracket go on top of the plastic shield or do I remove the shield? If it stays, I need to cut it a bit (for the cable) and open up some holes for the mounting studs to poke through.

Anybody with a photo of a installed OE C4 avant CD changer they could post?

TIA

Default Dave... no cover on the avants...

I've never heard of them. I just had mine wedged in my '95...no bracket either.

But, the avant bracket is very different from the sedan bracket and didn't think it came with a pastic cover thingy... if it does, leave it off. It's in a little bin of it's own, so no one's gonna see it anyways.

I have that Alpine changer in my sedan and I bought a new "install kit" from the dealer. The carpet covered cover thingy is in my basement. I think it looks better without it IMHO, and takes up less space!

Default Threadjack- what's the part number on the Avant 6-CD bracket?

I'm trying to capture all the possible part numbers for the FAQ thread so if someone gets a bracket they'll know what it's for.

Default I think it starts with "NLA". But seriously, its at home and I will check later. The CD changer is

4D0 035 111 OR 8D0 035 111 (from an early A4).
