Default Gamma radio constant power question???

I have a 94 S4 with a gamma radio that can be turned on without the ignition on. I was thinking about changing this to switched ignition power so that I dont have to turn the radio on and off everytime I get out of the car. I was just going to cut the constant power wire and wire that to a switch 12v. My only question about this is will it go into safe mode and require the code key every time if I do this?

Default If it actually powers off, then it's a bad connection somewhere. If the volume just cuts out...

it's a dirty potentiometer- if you can get at it, contact cleaner should fix it.

Default Yes, it will need the code every time.

You need to take the radio apart and rewire the power switch so the radio has power all the time, but it turns off with the ignition. I did it on my 94' 100.

Default Another option might be going to a later radio- the 95.5-up Delta and Concert I...

turn off with the ignition. You can turn them back on if you haven't pulled the switch. I'm planning to install a Concert I in my 92- it looks like it will be pretty straightforward based on the wiring diagrams.

Default Actually, the 95.5-up Delta And Concert I will play for one hour after the key is removed then shut

down. Pushing the power **** once more will give you another hour. HTH.

Default so its not as difficult as previously thought, converting to a 95.5 head unit?

I was under the impression it was a electrical nightmare. so then phat noise will work?

Default The radio was a POS, so I throw it away.

There is a switched +12V on the back of the radio. Cut the permanent +12V wire, that goes to the **** and wire in the switched +12V. The permanent power still going to supply the rest of the radio, so it will remember the code and the preset stations.
