Default Sounds like your fuel pump is about dead

Walbro right? They have a terrible reliability track record, FWIW...

When you jumped the fuel pump direct to battery it should have turned on and stayed on..

It did after a few tries of turning the key on and off.

Default hm, then your fuel pump is not really jumped to the battery

if the fuel pump relay is still 'involved' in some way.

If the key is involved with the pump turning on then it is not direct wired to the battery.

Run a wire from the + pole to the + wire going direct to the pump. Then run the ground line from the pump to the body or the - terminal of the battery.

Your pump should run now, if it is working.

If not, then there is a problem with your pump, or the wiring to/from it.

If your pump does work, disconnect/connect the wire a few times to give it another chance at flaking out.

If it works consistently, you then look at either the relay from the battery to the pump, the wire connections into this relay or the J17 itself.

If nothing here helps, then damn.

just double checked and bypassing the ignition relay turns the pump on. So yes it is working the way it should with VEMS. Will put the replacement pump in when it arrives and see if the problem comes back.
