engine redlines itself: bad throttle clip or dash pot? (story inside...)
For most of the winter, the S-Car has been peacefully hibernating in my subzero garage. Yesterday, I decided to take it for a spin since the roads were relatively free of salt.
I was cruising along up a steep hill on the interstate, and I gave the car some gas to maintain speed. As I reached the peak of the hill, I backed off the gas - but I felt the sensation that the gas pedal wasn't retracting as I eased pressure from my foot. The car, now on a flat straightaway, started to surge. It wanted to go fast...very fast.
I took the car out of gear. It promptly redlined itself for 2-3 seconds and then dropped down the idle. I pulled over, scratched my head, and said "WTF?" a few times.
This has happened twice. Should I be looking for a broken throttle clip? Change the fluid in the dash pot? Something else?
Thanks,
Dave
