DICE iPod integration write-up
Thanks to a fellow lister here (Urscubed)I recently installed a Concert I into my 95.5. Recently I ordered the DICE kit from enfigstereo.com and installed it over the weekend.
The parts ordered from enfigstereo were:
DICE_I_AUDI_R_SMALL Dice Electronics i-AUDI-R
DICE_CRADEL Dice Electronics iPod Cradle
PANAVISE_75102_196 Panavise 75102-196

The install was relatively straight forward and simple, the hardest part being the Panavise bracket mounting. Talking with enfig we came up with the part above as the best option for mounting in the S6 as there was no specific mount for my vehicle. The mount I used was for a 97 & up A4 with concert I. It required a bit of trimmming and filing down on one fo the tabs as it was too long for the chassis to slide by.

The above picture is where the mounting plate was intended for installation and where I mounted mine. However, I think that in the summer when its nice I may try to move the mount where I have it pictured below. It would require removing PS knee bolster to get the mounting tabs of the bracket behind the console, hopefully I can find something to mount it on.

The Dice harness is nice, very P&P and a breeze to install. (note if you followed an earlier thread regarding the relay needed for the Concert I install it can be seen here. This is not an ideal realy @ 30A and 6V but it has worked well enought to leave it alone till warm weather)

The electrical taped solder connections were previously installed by the former owner with an Kenwood CD changer that is crap and will soon be yanked from car.
I routed the harness down to the PS of the center console and hooked up the DICE controller there.

Here the mouting plate has been installed and the cradle is not mounted. The plate prevents that side of the Concert I to seat flush against the panel which is one reason I want to move it. It doesn't stick out that much but I notice it and the chassis doesn't "lock" in on that side.

The last pic is another reason why I want to move the mount higher. My girls legs are way too nice to be butchered by that mount in the event of a collision. It is not in a good place IMO for safety and b/c it is so sturdy I think it will definitely deform flesh before it bends or breaks. The position is nice for the driver though, you can reach it while you arm is on the armrest.
Impressions:
Overall happy, although this kit is $$. One thing I am not happy with is there is no text support it seems for the Concert I. Even though I get text with FM it does not display for the iPod. I can use the Concert I to cycle trough tracks, playlists, and chapters but it is a bit confusing with no text. There are configurations on the DICE controller that I thought I set correctly for the text support although I will double check that and report later. I am 99% sure I did it correctly but the instructions may be incorrect. ( wouldn't be the first time)
About the instructions, there are none. You have to go to enfigstereo.com and download them from a support page.
The quality is very good and it should be for the price. The sound quality is better than anything I have heard come out of this Concert I to date. Much better than that junk FM modulated CD changer.
The ipod is mounted securely, no movement at all, very solid and secure.
The cradle also comes with about 6 different mounting clips to accomodate all iPod versions and also has a video out jack integrated in the cradle.
All in all a nice kit.

That's the +100hp button, yours didn't come with one?
Actually it is the momentary switch to control the TDS-1 display, soon to be replaced with an OEM switch if I can find one (looking for the trip computer control from an B3/B4 80/90/CQ, anyone got one?)

Technically yes as it is an FM modulated CD changer.....but
there is no point now with the iPod, the CD player sounds like garbage and I am going to remove it. If you have a OEM CD changer I don't know the answer, probably not b/c the ipod utilizes the CD changer controls for operation.
The iPod turns on/off with the car, you control the ipod through the CD changer controls in the Concert I or as you normally would with the controls on the ipod itself, either/or. The cradle charges the ipod when the car is on as well.
It's pretty much like this....when I shut the car off everything is still playing, when I remove the key it shuts down everything, when I turn the car back on the ipod fires up and begins exactly where it left off.
If you were driving down the road and turn the Concert I off, the ipod pauses and stays powered for a few minutes and then turns off, when you turn the concert I back on it powers on the ipod as well and it picks up where it left off.

Has anyone tried this before?
Hey, while reading this post I had an idea. I remember seeing a product online that would allow you to use a head unit with CAN BUS (concert II) in a car that does not have CAN BUS. The main problem was people could not get the unit to illuminate at night or turn off when the ignition was turned off but this unit is supposed to remedy both of those problems. I was wondering if anyone has put a Concert II in their s4/s6 using this adapter. I think it would be pretty cool to have a UrS4 with an in dash cd player, would also be easier to connect iPod. I don't have Photoshop so I don't know if the player would even match the rest of the dash. Even if possible though the Concert II is $300, adapter $100, ipod kit <$100, ouch. This is the first thing I looked into...
I wanted a Concert II in the UrS but after discussing it online and actually holding one in my hand I decided it was not worth the trouble or expense. Although I did not know about the harness you just linked. If it works as described than the only other considerations you may have is making the faceplate surround fit the console and it will not match up perfectly. The Concert II I was looking at wasn't glossy black like the Gamma or Concert I, it was more like a flat black or even greyish in color. Not a big deal to most I am sure but for me I want a completely OEM look.
I have all my music in my home computer now and with the 8GB Nano it will hold everything I need for a long trip making a CD player irrelevant. Plus, it sounds better than CD IMO.
